In order for a classroom to function well, a teacher first needs to manage the students, and the class as a whole. There are many different techniques that a teacher can use in a classroom to reinforce desired behaviour. What we need to remember as educators though, is that extrinsic behaviour techniques are great in a classroom in order to motivate students in the short-term. What we want as teachers is a classroom that is managed with intrinsic behaviour, so that students learn desired behaviour and strive to achieve this behaviour solely for themselves.
